Pre-K & Kindergarten Program
Our Explorers & Navigators programs represent the pinnacle of the early childhood experience at Spell Well Montessori. Designed as a cohesive journey for children aged 4 to 6, this stage honors the transition from the 'absorbent mind' to a period of conscious academic mastery and social leadership.
In this integrated environment, Pre-K students build upon their foundational curiosity, while Kindergarteners step into their roles as mentors and scholars. We empower our students with the self-discipline, critical thinking, and creative confidence to navigate the world with purpose and 'Knowledge with Love'.
From Exploration to Leadership
Pre-K (Explorers) (Ages 4 – 5 Years)
The Explorers program at Spell Well Montessori School represents the culmination of our Advanced Primary Montessori experience for children aged 4 to 5 years old. At this stage, we place a significant emphasis on reading and mathematics, essential skills that form the foundation of lifelong learning. Our
dedicated educators guide each child to build a solid academic base so they can reach their full potential and achieve their personal best.
A Specialized Program for Growing Minds
In the Explorers classroom, children begin transitioning from concrete understanding to more complex abstract concepts. Our Advanced Primary Montessori program covers five core pillars:
- Practical Life & Sensorial: These foundational Montessori lessons continue to refine a child’s focus, coordination, and sense of order.
- Advanced Phonics & Reading: Using our proven phonics-based system, Explorers move beyond letter sounds into beginning reading. Our sensory-based phonetic reading program ensures that literacy is a natural and engaging process to develop strong reading skills.
- Tactile Mathematics: Students move beyond counting to arithmetic concepts- such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and early geometry through hands-on Montessori material.
- Hands-On Science: Through observation, experimentation and exploration children are introduced to life sciences, physical science, botany, and basic anatomy.
- Global Geography & Culture: Children explore continents while learning about diverse cultures, traditions, food, and music, fostering global awareness and appreciation.
Enrichment & The Arts
We believe in educating the "whole child." To supplement our core academic curriculum, Explorers participate in a variety of enrichment classes designed to foster physical health, creative expression, and global awareness:
- Creative Art: Students explore different mediums to express their unique perspectives and develop fine motor skills through artistic discovery.
- Spanish Lessons: Early language immersion helps children develop cognitive flexibility and a global mindset from a young age.
- Ballet: Our ballet sessions promote grace, posture, and physical discipline in a fun, supportive environment.
- Yoga: We introduce mindfulness and movement to help students improve balance, focus, and emotional self-regulation.
- Gardening & Nature Studies: Through Gardening & Nature Studies, children plant and nurture seeds, witnessing life cycles firsthand. This living classroom experience builds patience and a lifelong sense of environmental stewardship.
Why Choose the Explorers Program?
At Spell Well Montessori School, the Explorers (4-5 yrs) class is designed to be an emotionally safe and nurturing environment. Guided by the core tenets of the Montessori philosophy, we focus on developing "inner discipline" and a lifelong love of learning. By the time an Explorer graduates to our Navigators (Kindergarten) program, they are academically prepared for the next stage of educational journey.
Kindergarten: (Navigators) (Ages 5 – 6)
The Navigators program at Spell Well Montessori School serves as a vital bridge between early childhood education and elementary school. The Spell Well Elementary program is also fully accredited from grades KG to 8th grade. This important transitional year allows students to strengthen foundational skills while preparing for future academic success through a thoughtfully designed Montessori program.
The Prepared Environment
Guided by the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, our classrooms are purposefully designed to support natural learning.
- Order and Structure: Learning materials are thoughtfully arranged to create a calm, predictable environment.
- Non-Competitive Atmosphere: Each child progresses at their own pace, building confidence without pressure.
- Inner Discipline: Children develop focus, independence and self-regulation through meaningful work.
- Math & Language Arts: Customized learning pathways support abstract thinking, problem solving, critical thinking. Students move beyond counting to arithmetic concepts- such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and early geometry through hands-on Montessori material.
- Science & Social Studies: Interactive lessons encourage curiosity, exploration and a broader understanding of the world that foster curiosity and global awareness.
To support continuous academic growth, students engage IXL, an adaptive learning platform that provides personalized practice and real-time feedback to the teachers & parents. Our educators use IXL’s Real-Time Diagnostics to "follow the child," providing individualized instruction in a peaceful, prepared environment that fosters a lifelong love of learning.
- Mentorship & Leadership
A defining feature of the Navigators program is the opportunity for kindergarten students to take on leadership roles within the classroom by mentoring each other. Navigators develop self-confidence and sense of responsibility and a deeper understanding of the concepts they have already learned.
Enrichment & Nature Studies: Spell Well Montessori School offers a well-rounded experience designed to stimulate the whole child:
- Languages: Early exposure to Spanish and Mandarin supports communication skills and global awareness.
- Creative Art: Art serves as a profound medium for externalizing the internal world as it provides a vital outlet for children to communicate thoughts and feelings beyond words. In our Art classroom, each child’s artwork serves as a unique window into their developing world and a celebration of peaceful discovery.
- Gardening & Nature Studies: Children learn to plant and nurture seeds. Watching life cycles unfold firsthand in this living classroom fosters patience, environmental stewardship, and a deep connection to the natural world.
- Wellness: Ballet, Dance, Yoga, and Physical Education is an integral part of our Kindergarten class.

Leadership & Mentorship: The Capstone Year
As the eldest in the Primary environment, our Kindergarteners naturally step into leadership roles. By giving lessons to their peers, they reinforce their own knowledge and develop profound self-confidence. This multi-age dynamic creates a social harmony where empathy and responsibility are practiced daily, preparing them to be mentors and guides.
Early Academic Fluency: From Concrete to Abstract
Our students reach a state of 'Academic Fluency' through a deep work cycle. You might see a child composedly working on long division with the Golden Beads or writing complex phonetic stories. This is the stage where years of Montessori preparation click into place, allowing for a joyful and precise mastery of literacy and mathematics.
Elementary Preparation: Building Stamina and Focus
We focus on the 'Executive Functions' necessary for the next level. Through self-directed projects, the children develop the organizational skills, academic stamina, and the 'inner discipline' required for a seamless and confident transition to elementary school. They leave Spell Well not just knowing what to learn, but how to learn independently
Advanced Problem Solving: The Reasoning Mind
"Beyond facts, we nurture critical thinking. Whether it’s researching the solar system or resolving a social disagreement through sophisticated dialogue, our students engage in 'Advanced Problem Solving.' They are encouraged to ask 'Why?' and 'How?', using logic and collaboration to navigate increasingly complex challenges
