Discover a classroom where concentration thrives and curiosity leads the way. Visit our Primary program to see how children transition from concrete materials to abstract concepts in math, language, and science, all while building a strong, respectful community.
Pre-Primary & Primary Program
Our Discoverers and Pioneers programs are specifically designed to honor the curious and 'absorbent mind' of the young child. We provide a rich, multi-sensory curriculum where students transition from concrete exploration to abstract mastery at their own individual pace.
Through the purposeful use of Montessori materials in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Mathematics, children become the architects of their own education. At Spell Well, your child doesn’t just learn; they lead—building the profound confidence, self-discipline, and intellectual curiosity necessary to become lifelong scholars and compassionate global citizens.
A Journey of Purposeful Work
Pre-Primary Montessori (Discoverers)(Ages 2 – 3 Years)
The Discoverers program at Spell Well Montessori School is thoughtfully designed pre-primary class for children ages 2 to 3. This transitional stage is a critical period of growth-bridging early toddler exploration with the foundation of academic learning. In this nurturing environment learning comes alive through purposeful activity and guided discovery. Our goal is to support each child’s intellectual, social, and emotional development while fostering curiosity, creativity and confidence within a true Montessori “prepared environment”.
A Specialized Pre-Primary Program
In the Discoverers classroom, the Montessori method allows teachers to work with children both individually and in small groups. Lessons are carefully tailored to each child’s developmental needs and focus on six key areas:
- Practical Life: The foundation of our program are activities that help students develop independence by learning to care for themselves, others, and their environment, building responsibility and confidence.
- Sensorial Learning: Children use specialized materials to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions such as length, weight, color, and sound.
- Language Development: We build a strong foundation for literacy through phonetic awareness, vocabulary development, and prewriting skills, including basic Spanish lessons from a young age.
- Mathematics: Children are introduced to foundational mathematical concepts using concrete hands-on material that make abstract ideas meaningful.
- Science & Discovery: Curiosity is encouraged through observation exploration and inquiry.
- Gardening & Nature Studies: Children engage in hands-on gardening, learning to plant seeds, tending to sprout, and respecting the life cycles of nature. This fosters patience, environmental stewardship, and a connection to the world around.
Building Confident Learners:
The Pre-Primary (Discoverers) program nurtures concentration, perseverance, and independence- helping children become confident learners who are eager to explore and grow. By providing an emotionally safe and academically stimulating space, the child develops the "inner discipline" necessary for future success in our Pioneers (Primary class).
Primary Montessori Excellence (Pioneers)(3-4 Years)
Welcome to the Pioneers classroom at Spell Well Montessori School, where children ages 3 to 4 are nurtured in an emotionally safe, engaging and developmentally appropriate environment. Guided by core principles of Montessori philosophy. Our Pioneers program is designed to spark curiosity while building a strong academic and social foundation.
A Comprehensive Primary Program
The Pioneers program is thoughtfully designed to support the "absorbent mind" of the three-to-four-year-old. Our program integrates five essential areas of study:
- Practical Life & Sensorial: Children engage in hands-on activities that build independence and refine the five senses and build the concentration necessary for more advanced learning.
- Phonics-Based Language Arts: Pioneers begin their literacy journey with our sensory-based phonetic reading program, allowing them to bridge the gap between sounds and written letters naturally.
- Hands-On Mathematics: Mathematical concepts are introduced though concrete materials, helping children understand the “Why” behind numbers. Children don't just memorize numbers; they learn the logic behind simple addition and geometry.
- Scientific Inquiry: Science comes to life through hands-on experiments and interactive activities. Our program covers life sciences, physical science, botany, and basic anatomy, encouraging children to ask "how" and "why" about the world around them.
- Global Geography & Culture: Children explore continents while learning about diverse cultures, traditions, food, and music, fostering global awareness and appreciation.
Enrichment, Arts & Movement
To provide a truly holistic experience, the Pioneers program includes a robust selection of enrichment classes that stimulate the mind and body:
- Spanish Language: We offer Spanish lessons, providing early language immersion to foster cognitive flexibility and global communication skills.
- Performing Arts: Students develop grace, rhythm, and self-expression through our ballet and dance.
- Physical Wellness: Outdoor play and Yoga sessions help students improve coordination, strength, and emotional self-regulation.
- Gardening & Nature Studies: Children learn to plant and nurture seeds. Watching life cycles unfold firsthand in this living classroom fosters patience, environmental stewardship, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Why the Pioneers Program?
At Spell Well Montessori School we believe that education should be a holistic experience. By providing a "prepared environment," we allow our Pioneers (3-4 yrs) to grow at their own pace while mastering complex subjects. The habits of perseverance and self-discipline developed in this class
serve as the building blocks for our Explorers (5-6 yrs) and Kindergarten
programs.

A Day in the Life: The Prepared Environment
Purposeful Work and Social Harmony
Practical Life: The Foundation of Independence
The day begins with Practical Life activities that help children feel grounded and confident in their environment. Whether carefully pouring water, polishing wood, or arranging materials with care, these tasks are far more than simple chores. They are purposeful exercises that strengthen fine motor skills, build self-reliance, encourage concentration, and prepare the child for more complex academic work.
Sensorial Learning: Exploring the World’s Dimensions
Children then move into Sensorial exploration, where they learn to observe, compare, and classify the world around them. Through materials such as the Pink Tower and Color Tablets, they refine their senses and begin to notice subtle differences in size, shape, color, texture, and dimension. These hands-on experiences transform abstract concepts into concrete understanding.
Language Arts: From Sound to Symbol
In a rich language environment, Language Arts develops naturally through conversation, storytelling, and hands-on materials. Children use Sandpaper Letters to connect sounds with symbols through touch, sight, and movement. This multisensory approach gently guides them toward writing, reading, and creative expression while nurturing a lifelong love of communication and literature.
Mathematical Exploration: The Mathematical Mind
Mathematics is introduced through beautiful, concrete Montessori materials such as the Golden Beads and Number Rods. Rather than relying on rote memorization, children physically experience quantity, sequence, place value, and the decimal system. This meaningful exploration helps them develop logical thinking and a deep, intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts.
